Thread: MicroGDS comes with Piranesi?

  1. #1

    Default MicroGDS comes with Piranesi?

I saw somewhere that MicroGDS will include Piranesi "Lite". Is that true? And what is Piranesi "Lite"?

I think that you'll find that MicroGDS 2010 does include a copy of Piranesi Lite. This is essentially Piranesi 5.1

Really! and where might it be located?

As one who might know a little more than some but not as much as some others, it would be helpful to see some sort of formal announcement unless I have missed that, something I apparently often do as I journey through my seventh decade of life and near the end of my third decade of GDS experience.

...about 3/4 way down the page - http://www.microgds.co.uk/microgds-architecture.htm

It should install into the Informatix folder under Program Files, I think. Can't be 100% sure - I already had a copy!

New Licenecs of both MicroGDS 2010 C and Microgds 2010 EL ship with a copy of Piranesi 2010 Lite free of charge. It does not come with licence upgrades, either free or paid for.

    Adrian,

How about those of us who have paid regular maintenance upgrade and support fees year in year out, from the very beginning?

Default MicroGDS 2010 and Piranesi 2010 Lite

Maintenance fees are charged to give you support on a day to day basis, and to provide you with totally free upgrades to the software when new release are made. You will as a maintenance customer, of course, get your free upgrade to MicroGDS 2010. If you buy an additional licence (maintained or not) you will also get a free copy of Piranesi 2010 Lite. We are using this incentive to try and grow new licence sales and hence to fund the development of future releases of the product.

    Cool Read and Understood

    Adrian,

Thanks for clarifying this matter and explaining the thinking behind it. Unfortunately, I only require one licence of MicroGDS for my use. I do fully back your aim to expand the number of users, and try my best to encourage others to buy copies.

    Unhappy Piranesi lite

Thats a real shame for all us old diehard MGDS supporters. If folk need Piranesi they will buy it but most existing MGDS users would probably just like it to dabble and as such its pretty unaffordable for most one man bands.

I think this is different from the subscription model that was suggested as a possible business model to me in a casual "state of the Union" chat with one of the new owners when the company was bought, so I guess the old school won out.

A well maybe we should go off maintenance and just buy afresh every few years ;o(

    Colin,

I knew I could rely on you to put the alternative Scottish point of view from the original supporters. You will no doubt get the response that a demo copy is available for 30 days. That would be fine if it was 30 days of use rather than 30days continuous.

I agree. It does not chime with previous sentiments.

I do recall buying a copy of Piranesi but can I find the disc or the licence details? I can find discs for every version of WinCAD/MicroGDS that has been issued since 1991.

Funny how WinCAD is not mentioned in that potted history.
