First I built my model in Max6. I exported it to an .epx file. When I tried to use the edge effect, the tool revealed not only the edges of the model, but also the interior faces. In other words, instead of just showing an outline of a sphere, it showed all 200 lines that go into creating the object. I have tried adjusting the settings on the edge effect, but I can only get the lines to reduce. I need them to go away entirely. Does anyone know of a setting or a trick to give better control over what lines are selected by this filter?

You need to turn antialiasing off in MAX when creating the Epix file. MAX not only antialiases the RGB channel but also the depth channel, which causes the edges of the model to bet etched into the planes

Thanks Brian...that did it. It figures that after hours and hours of trying to figure it out and finally giving up and manually erasing each and every superfluous line, the answer was to uncheck one box in the render menu in Max. Next time I will post my question earlier in the process.
Thanks again
