View Full Version : Cutouts blurry

I'm a fairly new user to P4 and wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
When I Place people cutouts in my scenes, they are blurry, no way near as clear as the png files.
I've adjusted everything I can think of, but no change. Is it just one of those things or am I missing something?
Thansk for any help.

I suspect it may have something to do with the resolution of your epix file. Can you tell me:
1. The resolution of your epix file
2. which cutout you are using
3. a guess at the relative height of the cutout in size to the height of the epix file.

Thanks Brian,
The resolution is 100 dpi, image size is 1534 X 1045 pixels.
Female042, Male011, & group008 are the cut outs used. dn they are approximately 10% of the hgt of the picture.
Is there a way to increase the resolution when making the epix file from sketchup? And would that help, 100 dpi seems pretty small.
Thanks again,
Lee

Brian,
I got the cutouts real clear by kicking the image size to 4000 x 2724, but my file size grows to 100 MB.
There's got to be a better way.

I think the problem is that the cutouts are quite high resolution and when they are being downsampled to a low resolution then the blurriness happens. Having said this it doesn't look too bad to me on the screen.
Are you noticing it more on a print than on the screen? If so how big is the print?
With the higher resolution file, you should find that if you open the file in PIranesi and save it then it should be about a 10th the size as generated from Sketchup so a 10MB file isn't too bad.

Thanks Brian,
That does seem to help, it took the file size down to 12MB.
Does it help it increase the resolution from 100 DPI to 600 DPI or is that just for printout.

AS far as Piranesi is concerned it is the number of pixels that matter. The dpi is only really used for getting a default size of the image on paper.

Brian,
Thanks for the help. As usual, the forum comes through. I think I need to spend more time looking around on the forums.

Hello brian,
I am new to Piranesi. am trying out the demo version. An amazing s/w. I've got some doubts.
1) In the quick start tutorial... the cut out of house no "4"..... comes blurry when placed on the door.. while it is quite sharp when placed on the brick pillar. Is it because of the depth channel??
2) The quick start refers to detailed tutorials... I am unable to find the find. Is it only for the registered version or Do we have to separately download (can anyone provide the link)
regards
Santanu
